Terms of Service

1. Agreement to Terms
By accessing or using STARlog ("Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service.
STARlog is provided by STARlog LLC, a limited liability company registered in Idaho ("Company," "we," "us," or "our"). These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you ("User," "you," or "your") and STARlog LLC.
2. Description of Service
STARlog is a career documentation platform that helps professionals document their accomplishments using the STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) method. The Service includes:
Free Tier:
- Up to 25 STAR entries
- Manual entry creation
- Basic search and filtering
- Plain text export
Premium Tier ($84/year):
- Unlimited STAR entries
- AI-powered extraction from text
- AI-generated reports
- PDF export functionality
- Advanced search and categorization
3. Account Registration
3.1 Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. By creating an account, you represent that you meet this age requirement.
3.2 Account Security
You are responsible for:
- Maintaining the confidentiality of your password
- All activities that occur under your account
- Notifying us immediately of any unauthorized access
We are not liable for losses caused by unauthorized use of your account.
3.3 Accurate Information
You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration and to update such information to keep it accurate, current, and complete.
4. Acceptable Use Policy
4.1 Permitted Use
You may use the Service to:
- Document your professional accomplishments
- Generate reports for interviews, performance reviews, or career planning
- Store and organize career-related information
4.2 Prohibited Use
You may NOT:
- Use the Service for any illegal purpose or to violate any laws
- Upload malicious code, viruses, or harmful content
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or other users' accounts
- Scrape, harvest, or collect data from the Service without permission
- Use the Service to harass, abuse, or harm others
- Impersonate any person or entity
- Share your account credentials with others
- Use the Service in a manner that could damage, disable, or overburden our infrastructure
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Service
- Use automated systems (bots, scrapers) without written permission
4.3 Content Restrictions
You may not upload content that:
- Is illegal, fraudulent, or violates any laws
- Infringes intellectual property rights
- Contains personal information of others without consent
- Is defamatory, obscene, or offensive
- Contains confidential information you do not have the right to share
5. Intellectual Property
5.1 Your Content
You retain ownership of all content you create and upload to STARlog ("Your Content"). By using the Service, you grant us a limited license to:
- Store and display Your Content to you
- Process Your Content with AI (Premium features, with your consent)
- Back up Your Content for service reliability
- Generate exports and reports as you request
This license terminates when you delete Your Content or close your account.
5.2 Our Intellectual Property
The Service, including its design, features, code, and branding, is owned by STARlog LLC and protected by intellectual property laws. You may not:
- Copy, modify, or create derivative works of the Service
- Use our trademarks, logos, or branding without permission
- Remove copyright or proprietary notices
5.3 Feedback
If you provide feedback, suggestions, or ideas about the Service, we may use them without any obligation to you.
6. Premium Subscription
6.1 Billing
Premium subscriptions are billed annually at $84/year. Payment is processed by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the Merchant of Record for all transactions.
6.2 Auto-Renewal
Subscriptions automatically renew unless you cancel before the renewal date. You will be charged at the then-current rate.
6.3 Cancellation
You may cancel your Premium subscription at any time. Upon cancellation:
- You will retain Premium access until the end of your billing period
- No refunds for partial periods
- Your account will revert to the Free tier
- Your content will be retained, but entries beyond the 25-entry limit will be read-only
6.4 Refunds
We offer refunds within 30 days of purchase if you are not satisfied with Premium features. After 30 days, no refunds will be provided for unused portions of your subscription.
6.5 Free Trials
If we offer a free trial, you will be charged at the end of the trial period unless you cancel before the trial ends.
6.6 Price Changes
We may change Premium pricing with 30 days' notice. Existing subscriptions will be honored at the original price until renewal.
7. AI Features and Data Processing
7.1 AI Processing Consent
By using Premium AI features (extraction, report generation), you consent to:
- Your content being sent to Anthropic (Claude API) for processing
- Processing of your content to generate STAR entries and reports
STARlog uses Anthropic's Claude as its AI provider. AI processing is performed solely to complete your requested function. You can withdraw this consent at any time by disabling AI features in your account settings or contacting us at privacy@starlog.io.
7.2 AI Limitations
AI-generated content may contain inaccuracies. STARlog's AI generates suggested content to assist you — it does not make decisions about you or your career. You are responsible for:
- Reviewing AI-generated STAR entries
- Verifying accuracy before using them professionally
- Editing and correcting AI outputs
We are not liable for consequences of relying on AI-generated content without verification.
7.3 No Training on Your Data
We do not use Your Content to train AI models. Anthropic's API data handling terms govern how your content is processed. Based on our API configuration, Anthropic does not use API inputs and outputs to train its models. You can review Anthropic's current privacy practices at anthropic.com/legal/privacy.
8. Service Availability and Modifications
8.1 Service Availability
We strive to maintain high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The Service may be unavailable due to:
- Scheduled maintenance
- Emergency repairs
- Technical issues
- Force majeure events
8.2 Service Modifications
We reserve the right to:
- Modify or discontinue features
- Change the Service design or functionality
- Update these Terms
We will provide notice of material changes when practicable.
8.3 No Guarantee of Uptime
We aim for high reliability but do not guarantee specific uptime percentages. We are not liable for service interruptions or data loss (though we maintain regular backups).
9. Data Backup and Export
9.1 Your Responsibility
While we maintain backups, you are responsible for maintaining your own copies of important content. We recommend regularly exporting your data.
9.2 Export Functionality
You can export your STAR entries at any time:
- Free tier: Plain text export
- Premium tier: JSON and PDF export
9.3 Account Closure
If you close your account:
- Your data will be permanently deleted within 30 days
- Export your data before closing your account
- We cannot recover deleted accounts or data
10. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
10.1 Service "As Is"
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.
10.2 No Professional Advice
STARlog provides tools for documenting accomplishments. It does not provide:
- Career counseling or professional advice
- Legal, financial, or employment advice
- Guarantees of career outcomes
10.3 Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, STARLOG LLC SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR:
- INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES
- LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES
- DAMAGES EXCEEDING THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE PAST 12 MONTHS
Some jurisdictions do not allow limitation of liability, so these limitations may not apply to you.
10.4 AI-Generated Content Disclaimer
We are not responsible for:
- Inaccuracies in AI-generated STAR entries or reports
- Career outcomes based on using AI-generated content
- Third-party decisions based on your use of AI features
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless STARlog LLC, its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, losses, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including legal fees) arising from:
- Your violation of these Terms
- Your use of the Service
- Your Content
- Your violation of any third-party rights
12. Termination
12.1 Termination by You
You may terminate your account at any time by contacting us at hello@starlog.io or using the account deletion feature.
12.2 Termination by Us
We may suspend or terminate your account if:
- You violate these Terms
- Your account is inactive for 12+ months (Free tier)
- Payment fails for your Premium subscription
- We are required to do so by law
- We discontinue the Service (with 30 days' notice)
12.3 Effect of Termination
Upon termination:
- Your access to the Service ends immediately
- Your Content will be deleted within 30 days
- Premium subscriptions are non-refundable (except as stated in Section 6.4)
- Provisions that should survive termination (IP, disclaimers, arbitration) remain in effect
13. Dispute Resolution
13.1 Informal Resolution
Before filing a claim, contact us at hello@starlog.io to attempt informal resolution. We will work in good faith to resolve disputes.
13.2 Arbitration
If informal resolution fails, disputes will be resolved through binding arbitration rather than in court, except:
- Small claims court actions (under applicable monetary limits)
- Intellectual property disputes
Arbitration will be conducted by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) under its Commercial Arbitration Rules.
13.3 Class Action Waiver
You agree to resolve disputes individually, not as part of a class action or consolidated proceeding.
13.4 Exceptions
This arbitration agreement does not prevent you from reporting issues to government agencies or seeking injunctive relief.
14. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Idaho, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes not subject to arbitration will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Kootenai County, Idaho.
15. General Provisions
15.1 Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and STARlog LLC.
15.2 Severability
If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect.
15.3 No Waiver
Our failure to enforce any provision does not constitute a waiver of that provision.
15.4 Assignment
You may not assign these Terms. We may assign these Terms to any successor or affiliate.
15.5 Force Majeure
We are not liable for delays or failures due to events beyond our reasonable control (natural disasters, wars, pandemics, internet outages, etc.).

15.7 Enterprise Data Processing
Enterprise or B2B customers may request a Data Processing Addendum by contacting hello@starlog.io.
16. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by:
- Posting updated Terms on this page
- Updating the "Last Updated" date
- Sending an email notification (for significant changes)
Your continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
