Terms of Service

1. Agreement to Terms

By using STARlog ("Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

Email-based users: By emailing rosie@starlog.io, you also agree to these Terms. Your first email constitutes your acknowledgment of and agreement to them.

STARlog is provided by STARlog LLC, a limited liability company registered in Idaho ("we," "us," "our"). These Terms are a legally binding agreement between you and STARlog LLC.

2. What STARlog Provides

STARlog helps professionals document accomplishments in STAR format (Situation, Task, Action, Result).

Free Tier:

Up to 25 STAR entries
Manual entry creation
Search and filtering
Plain text export
Email-based access via rosie@starlog.io — email your career wins and Rosie creates a STAR entry
One complimentary AI extraction on your first email (see §7.4)

Premium Tier ($84/year):

Unlimited STAR entries
AI-powered extraction (up to 10 per day; see §7.1 for current limits)
AI-generated reports
PDF export
Search and filtering
Enhanced Friday check-in emails with AI-powered career insights

3. Account Registration and Access

3.1 Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service.

3.2 Account Security

You access the Service using magic links delivered to your email address. Keep your email account secure — a compromised email means a compromised STARlog account. Do not forward or share magic link emails. Notify us at hello@starlog.io if you believe a link was intercepted or your account was accessed without authorization.

Magic links expire after a set period (72 hours for first-time links; 30 days for re-entry links). If a link expires, email rosie@starlog.io for a new one.

3.3 Accurate Information

You agree to provide accurate, current information when registering or emailing rosie@starlog.io.

3.4 Email-Based Account Creation

When you email rosie@starlog.io:

An account is created using your sending email address.
You receive an automatic reply with a magic link and a brief disclosure of what data we collected and how to request deletion.
Before you click the link, only a minimal pending record is stored. No full account exists until you click.
If you do not click within 72 hours, the pending record is deleted automatically.
By emailing rosie@starlog.io, you consent to account creation and agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy.
You may cancel before clicking by replying "DELETE" to the automatic reply.

4. Acceptable Use

4.1 Permitted Use

You may use the Service to document professional accomplishments, generate career reports, and organize career information.

4.2 Prohibited Use

You may not:

Use the Service illegally or to violate any laws
Upload malicious code or harmful content
Attempt unauthorized access to the Service or other users' accounts
Scrape or harvest data without permission
Impersonate others or share your account credentials or magic link emails
Overburden or attempt to reverse engineer the Service
Use automated systems without written permission
Email rosie@starlog.io from an automated or bulk system for purposes other than personal use

4.3 Content Restrictions

Your content may not be illegal, fraudulent, defamatory, or infringe third-party rights. Do not upload others' personal information without consent or share confidential information you do not have the right to disclose.

4.4 Disposable Email Addresses

We do not accept accounts using disposable, temporary, or throwaway email addresses — addresses from services that generate single-use emails designed to expire.

If your address is incorrectly flagged, contact us at hello@starlog.io. We review appeals promptly and restore access where appropriate. We do not discriminate against legitimate email providers or personal domains.

5. Intellectual Property

5.1 Your Content

You own your content. By using the Service, you grant us a limited license to store, display, process, and back up your content to operate the Service. This license ends when you delete your content or close your account.

5.2 Our Intellectual Property

STARlog's design, features, code, and branding belong to STARlog LLC. Do not copy, modify, or create derivative works of the Service or remove our copyright notices.

5.3 Feedback

If you share feedback or suggestions, we may use them without obligation to you.

6. Premium Subscription

6.1 Billing

Premium is billed annually at $84/year through Lemon Squeezy (Merchant of Record). You will receive confirmation of auto-renewal terms, the renewal amount, your renewal date, and cancellation instructions upon subscribing.

6.2 Auto-Renewal

Your Premium subscription automatically renews annually at the then-current rate (currently $84/year). We charge your payment method on file at each renewal date unless you cancel beforehand. We send a reminder at least 10 days before renewal. To cancel, go to your account settings and cancel your subscription, use the Lemon Squeezy customer portal linked in your billing emails, or contact us at hello@starlog.io before your renewal date. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period.

6.3 Cancellation and Refunds

Cancel anytime. You keep Premium access through the end of your billing period; your account then reverts to Free. Content beyond the 25-entry free limit becomes read-only but is not deleted.

Refunds are available within 30 days of purchase. After 30 days, no refunds on unused subscription time.

6.4 Price Changes

We may change Premium pricing with 30 days' notice. Existing subscriptions are honored at the original price through the current period.

7. AI Features

7.1 AI Processing and Limits

Premium AI features (extraction, report generation) involve sending your content to Anthropic (Claude API) for processing. By using these features, you consent to this. AI processing is used solely to complete your requested function.

Current usage limits for Premium:

AI extraction: up to 10 per day
AI reports: up to 10 per month

These limits exist to keep the Service sustainable and may be updated. We will update this section if limits change materially.

To withdraw consent for AI processing, contact us at privacy@starlog.io.

7.2 AI Limitations

AI-generated content may contain inaccuracies. You are responsible for reviewing AI outputs before using them professionally. We are not liable for consequences of relying on unverified AI-generated content.

7.3 No Training on Your Data

We do not use your content to train AI models. Under our API configuration, Anthropic does not use API inputs and outputs to train its models. See Anthropic's current practices at anthropic.com/legal/privacy.

7.4 One-Free-Extraction Model

When you email rosie@starlog.io for the first time, we apply one complimentary AI extraction to structure your email as a STAR entry. This is a one-time demonstration for new users.

After your first email, free-tier users submit entries in the manual STAR format explained in Rosie's first reply. Ongoing AI extraction is a Premium feature.

In practice:

Email #1: AI parses your email into a STAR entry automatically.
Email #2+ (Free): Use the manual STAR format from Rosie's first reply.
Premium: All emails are AI-parsed automatically.

The one-free-extraction applies per email address. Creating multiple accounts (including via disposable addresses — see §4.4) to obtain additional free extractions violates these Terms and may result in account termination.

7.5 Friday Check-Ins (Opt-In)

Free and Premium users may opt in to weekly Friday check-in emails by replying "YES" to the opt-in prompt in your first Rosie reply.

Free: Weekly prompts to log your wins.
Premium: Weekly AI-powered insights and coaching.

To unsubscribe, use the link in any check-in email or contact privacy@starlog.io.

8. Service Availability

We aim for high reliability but cannot guarantee uninterrupted access. The Service may be unavailable due to maintenance, technical issues, or events outside our control. We reserve the right to modify or discontinue features with notice when practicable. We are not liable for service interruptions, though we maintain regular backups.

9. Your Data

You can export your STAR entries at any time (Free: plain text; Premium: PDF). If you close your account, your data is permanently deleted within 30 days. Export your data before closing — we cannot recover deleted accounts.

10. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.

STARlog provides documentation tools — not career counseling, legal advice, or employment advice. We do not guarantee career outcomes.

Limitation of Liability: TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, STARLOG LLC IS NOT LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, LOSS OF PROFITS OR DATA, OR DAMAGES EXCEEDING THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE PAST 12 MONTHS. Some jurisdictions limit liability waivers; those limits may apply to you.

We are not responsible for inaccuracies in AI-generated content or outcomes from using it without verification.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless STARlog LLC and its officers, employees, and agents from claims, losses, and expenses (including legal fees) arising from your violation of these Terms, your use of the Service, your content, or your violation of third-party rights.

12. Termination

You may terminate your account at any time via account deletion or by contacting hello@starlog.io. Email-first users who have not yet clicked their magic link may cancel by replying "DELETE" to the Rosie automatic reply.

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, your account is inactive for 24+ months (Free tier) with prior notice per our Privacy Policy, payment fails for Premium, or we discontinue the Service (with 30 days' notice).

Never-authenticated accounts (created via email but magic link never clicked): subject to a 90-day retention period per our Privacy Policy §7, rather than the 24-month standard.

Upon termination, your access ends immediately and your content is deleted within 30 days. Provisions covering intellectual property, disclaimers, and dispute resolution survive termination.

13. Disputes

Before filing any claim, contact us at hello@starlog.io. We'll work in good faith to resolve issues informally.

If that fails, disputes will be resolved through binding arbitration under the American Arbitration Association (AAA) Commercial Arbitration Rules, except for small claims court actions and intellectual property disputes. You agree to resolve disputes individually — not as part of a class action. This does not prevent you from reporting issues to government agencies or seeking injunctive relief.

These Terms are governed by Idaho law. Non-arbitrable disputes go to state or federal courts in Kootenai County, Idaho.

14. General

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and STARlog LLC. If any provision is unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them to a successor. We are not liable for delays caused by events beyond our reasonable control. 15. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms and will notify you by posting updated Terms, updating the "Last Updated" date, and emailing you for significant changes. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
